What Everyone Ought To Know About Parrot Sequoia+ Multispectral Sensor
Is size everything?
Sequoia is certainly the smallest and lightest sensor and is a groundbreaking sensor in an amazing little bundle. The Sequoia weighs at 107g with its radiance sensor and being roughly half the size of the Red Edge. It may be tiny but it is a highly capable system of cameras and electronics, which makes it compatible with almost any size drone.
What's under the hood?
This lightweight, adaptable and value-packed multispectral camera features two types of sensor for the prices of one. The multispectral sensor facing the plants captures the light they reflect in reflect in four separate parts: green, red, red edge and near-infrared bands invisible to the human eye. Placed on the drone, the sunshine sensor records the intensity of light emanating from the sun in these four same bands of light. They work seamlessly to gather images and measure the light coming off the crops and the fields. That data will help in assessing for precisely locating where images and readings were taken, and is analyzed for a detailed picture of crops’ health.
Is Bound To Make an Impact?
With the variety of advanced solution software, which includes: Pix4D and Airinov and Sensefly. The Parrot Sequoia+, combined with Pix4D in particular, is the first multispectral drone camera that allows you to receive absolute reflectance measurements without the need to use radiometric calibration targets. This also enables Parrot Sequoia for more consistent evaluation of collecting data and improves the user experience. This will also save operation time as well as enable in-depth precision on reflectance measurements.
Memory Storage Better Than Anyone Else?
Has 64 GB of internal memory. The amount of data and number of flights it will record vary by aircraft, speed and altitude, but that’s likely enough for 8-10 flights. A slot allows you to add memory with an optional SD card. That eases data transfer and allows you to record data from a single flight, then access or upload it quickly. Data recorded on the internal memory can be accessed in three different ways: via USB, via Wi-Fi and via an SD card.
Calibrating Sequoia Doesn't Have To Be Hard. Read These Simple Tips
Let’s start from calibrating our Parrot Sequoia! First, make sure the sensors are properly attached and connected. Then, we can start the calibration.
The multispectral sensor must be perpendicular to the sunshine sensor. It is best to calibrate them both at the same time.
Note: If calibrating separately, the sunshine sensor must be connected to the multispectral sensor.
Step 1: Check that the Sequoia indicator light flashes purple.
Step 2: Make sure to rotate the drone on the Z-axis (yaw axis) until the green indicator light flashes on the sensor.
Step 3: Rotate the drone on the Y-axis (pitch axis) until the blue indicator light flashes on the sensor.
Step 4: Rotate the drone on the x-axis (roll axis)until the indicator changes color.
Note: Once it’s completely finished, the sensor light will vary depending on the status. For instance, if the memory is full, the light indicator will flash yellow.
Frequently Ask Questions.
Can Parrot Sequoia be used with any drone?
Yes, you can use Sequoia with any drones due to its compact size which fits easily. The biggest highlight as well, it includes those with both fixed wing and multi-rotor functionality.
With the addition of the small sensor, your drone will remain stable and have seamless control. You don't need to get upgraded to get the results you need.
How to mount the Sequoia to a drone?
The Parrot Sequoia camera can be easily connected; using either a fixed or gimbaled mount, on your drone.
How to retrieve data collected?
The data can be extracted in three different ways:
a. Via USB - With the micro USB cable, connect the micro USB device port on the multispectral sensor to your computer.
b. Via Wi-Fi - Connect the Sequoia sensor USB device port to a drone or a USB battery. Once the Sequoia is ON, check the "list of available Wi-Fi networks" if Wi-Fi appears.
c. Via an SD Card - Just connect your SD card in your computer to retrieve the photos.
What spectral bands does the Sequoia camera capture?
Sequoia captures 4 discrete spectral bands: Green, Red, Red Edge and Near Infrared, and 3 non-discrete spectral bands (as part of the RGB imagery).
What are the Sensor specifications:
o 4 x monochrome sensors (global shutter)
Pixel size: 3.75 μm
Focal length: 3.98 mm
Resolution: 1280 x 960
Spectral band width:
Green: 530-570 nm
Red: 640-680 nm
Red Edge: 730-740 nm
Near Infrared: 770-810 nm
o RGB sensor (rolling shutter)
Pixel size: 1.34 μm
Focal length: 4.88 mm
Do I still need to take panel shots if I am using a sunshine sensor?
Yes. An image of the calibrated reflectance panel is still needed both before and after flight to confirm the calibrations of the camera and the sunshine sensor or Downwelling Light Sensor (DLS). When performing the panel capture, ensure that both the panel and the sensor are being exposed to direct light from the sky, without shadowing and without reflections from other objects. In the future, we hope to improve processing such that the panel shots are no longer needed when using the DLS or sunshine sensor.
How Sequoia Sunshine (Irradiance) Sensor works?
In the event that the power of the ambient light differs, the measure of the crops'reflected light vitality will be adjusted and the outcome of the processed data will be distorted. Sequoia integrates a second sensor, known as the Sunshine Sensor, to adapt to light fluctuation, which is mounted on the top of the drone. This will record the light conditions in the same spectral bands during the flight. With its inclusions, it allows to be utilized in a clear as well as in cloudy condition, along these lines improving adaptability of usage.
How setup is achieved and is it required?
Yes, it’s necessary to setup the Sequoia with the included software. To setup Sequoia, you need to use a computer, Smartphone or tablet to run the software and sync with the drone. Also, because of the onboard IMU, you’ll have to perform a handheld compass configuration which takes less than a minute.
